We took on a plan to transform the space and open it to the street. We then asked the community to share their unique business ideas with the promise that we’d be a great landlord, renting the space for less than half of its market value, and helping with the buildout. In seven weeks, we received 17 proposals and met a bunch of folks who, like us, wanted to create something they loved—for themselves and the aspiring community around them.
We selected Dave Hausmann and John Porter, brothers-in-law who painted a picture that best aligned with our goals: a lively gathering space that would bring together the area’s best and brightest minds around a table of craveable and affordable food and drink. They promised a scrappy, unconventional, and authentic approach to creating a uniquely compelling place, with an atmosphere every bit as inspired as its fare.
We’re thrilled to introduce Field Guide.
Now open for lunch (and soon for dinner, drinks, and a bit more), Field Guide is equal parts lively food, place, and company. The space features three large tables where the community literally sits together. With a garage door storefront for open air dining, Field Guide blurs the line between activity in the restaurant and along the street.
The menu is the creation of Chef Dave Hausmann, whose credits include the maniacally craveable Handsome Biscuit and former, all-locally-sourced Boot. Nearly everything at Field Guide is made in-house, from the bread—baked fresh every morning—to the slow-roasted pork shoulder, served on a roll with raspberry jam and hot pickles. Feta cole slaw on the side, and an oatmeal cookie pie for dessert, and it’s been a good day.
For lunch, guests order at the counter and can dine quickly or stick around for the good company. Dinner hours, planned to begin in a few weeks, will offer seated service with a small menu of select entrees.
Beyond its community benefit, Field Guide offers an amazing place for Grow to connect, over business and after hours. We hope to see you at the table soon
